All of our crews are comprised of in-house employees. We do not use sub-contractors. What you get from us is a consistent and reliable service every time.
Our crews typically arrive at your home between 8am and 9am. Once on-site, our workmen begin unloading materials and tools, while our lead installer verifies measurements one last time, to ensure everything fits properly before removing any of your existing materials. Finally, we lay down drop cloths to ensure your floors are properly protected.
During this phase, we will also remove window treatments, if you have included that service in your contract. Otherwise, we ask that window treatments (including hardware) be down prior to our arrival.
All necessary interior finishing is removed. Depending on the specific materials being replaced, this can include interior trim and stool (often referred to as sill), but is most often just a simple scoring of your drywall return where it meets the window. This affords a clean extraction of the window, ensuring your drywall isn't damaged.
On the exterior, there is usually a nailing fin/flange around the perimeter of your existing windows (or doors), used to secure them to the wall. This flange must be cut, using a reciprocating or circular saw, to extract the windows. The exterior envelope (siding, stucco, brick, etc.) will remain in place.
Once the window/door has been extracted, we will remove any debris or insulation to allow for a secure and solid surface to rest and secure the new window or door. At this time, we are also able to inspect the wall for any structural deficiencies. It is rare for us to find any issues, but in the event we find something, we will replace with new materials, which is charged at time + materials and applied to your contract balance.
We set the materials in the prepped opening, shimming as necessary, and ensuring everything is level, square, and plumb. At this point, we secure the window or door by screwing through the side jambs and into the framing of the house. We do not typically use a nailing flange to secure your new windows or doors, because as your home settles, walls do not stay square or plumb, making it very difficult to properly install the new materials.
Once your windows or doors are set and secured, we insulate the perimeter with closed cell spray foam, which expands enough to fill all air gaps, but not so much that it bends the frame of your window or door. Spray foam provides superior thermal and acoustic insulation.
Once everything has been set and secured, it's time to seal everything up. All of our trucks are outfitted with a brake, a tool for bending metal capping. This means we custom fabricate every piece of exterior trim to precisely fit the exterior of your new windows or doors. Capping slots into an accessory groove on the perimeter of the window, and it extends to your exterior envelope (siding, brick, stucco, etc.). We then caulk the perimeter with a high grade sealant. The style and brand of caulk varies depending on colors and other factors, but we most often use silicone that is mildew resistant and won't shrink.
Finishing of the interior depends on project parameters and the material of your windows or doors. For vinyl replacement windows, usually the only finishing necessary is a caulk bead where the drywall meets the window. For doors, wood windows, or bays and bows, interior trim is typically required. Your consultant will help you select the appropriate trim style, and we'll install it and seal it with an appropriate style of caulk, depending on whether the trim will be stained or painted.
While we're mindful to be picking up throughout the job, our final task is to clear as much debris from your home as possible. Drop cloths are carefully gathered and removed. Old windows or doors are loaded on our trucks for disposal. Stray scraps and debris are gathered and trashed. Each area is swept, and notable areas of dirt are shop vacuumed. If you have an upright vacuum for us to use, we'll also use that in each area we've been.
Once we're finished, your lead installer will review aspects of the job with you, including cleaning and operating your new windows or doors. At this point, the balance of your contract will also be due.
We aim to understand your needs precisely so we can deliver the ideal solution. Share your requirements with us, and we'll strive to assist you to the best of our ability.
